Project Overview
One of my core projects while contracting for Extra Space Storage was a mobile app designed to allow customers to open facility gates and doors and unlock their Bluetooth-equipped units with their phones.
The initial concepts were hammered out in a five-day design sprint, including an interactive prototype I created from scratch in one day. After further exploration of user needs and feedback from user testing refined the UI and expanded the scope to include a “manager” version that provided at-a-glance info about a facility manager’s customers and the state of their rentals.

Initial Prototype
The initial concepts were hammered out in a five-day design sprint based on the book Sprint by Jake Knapp. Monday through Wednesday of the design sprint were focused on figuring out the core problems we were trying to solve and the solutions we felt would be most effective. On the Thurdsay of the sprint, I built the following interactive prototype from scratch.
Testing & Iteration
Following the initial design sprint, I conducted used to initial prototype to conduct user testing and further build out and iterate the app. I rebuilt the prototype in Figma to continue with the testing and iteration process, and also began to explore feature concepts beyond the minimum viable product.
